It is the first time after class 10th, that CBSE allows us to choose the subjects we want to study. Those of us who are not very sure of our career interests till now, find it really difficult to take a decision on this. It is advisable to decide upon this before your Board exams, as the sooner your path will be clear, the more focused and determined you will be.
Before outlining the criterion upon which one may decide the best stream, it is important to mention that the decision should not be taken under parental pressure or in some dreamy lure of fame and money.

● Research well and talk to your seniors for the right guidance- Read as much as you can on the various career opportunities available under different streams. Talk to several people from different streams to have a first hand review of the pros and cons of every stream.

● Find out your interest area- Note that the interest area may or may not match with the subjects where your scoring is high. Understand interest in terms of the subjects which you enjoy studying.

● Explore your strengths and weaknesses- Contrary to the earlier point, if you feel that you can develop the will to study the subjects which don’t interest you much, but are your high scoring subjects, opt them. This is because your interest may be different from the God gifted IQ.

● Career Prospects vs. Goals- At times we are not sure of the subjects, but we are very sure of what we don’t want to do, so you can go by the method of elimination also, to decide upon the right stream. The career options available after selecting the stream must align with your life goals.

● Professional Help- You may go for Career counselling with experts or an Aptitude Test to decide upon the stream which is the best match as per your bent of mind.

● Fee and Charges- Financial capacity of your parents can also be a criteria to decide upon the stream. Make sure to discuss with your family so that they can plan ahead and there may not be any hurdles in your education journey because of finance.

In conclusion, choosing the right stream after Class 10th is a very important decision. No doubt this phase lays down the bedrock for your future career and personal growth. This requires a fine balance of self-awareness, research with information, and the most crucial ingredients—strengths and interests.
